Castlewood Singers, drawing most of its members from Marion County was formed in 1984. We are a mixed-voice, a cappella ensemble with a repertoire of secular as well as sacred vocal music. We fashion our programs to suit a venue or sponsoring organization. Castlewood Singers' music incorporates a wide variety of choral styles, including classical, contemporary, sacred, spirituals and Broadway tunes, all sung in four, six, or eight part harmonies.
Directed by Mr. Gayle Byers, Castlewood has performed at venues throughout the greater Indianapolis area and the State of Indiana. Highlights have included organizing a well-attended workshop on Madrigal Dinners at Franklin College (IN) as well as a choral evensong at the Indianapolis Artsgarden. Castlewood was featured in community concert series at Vincennes University (IN) and Freiedens United Church of Christ (Indianapolis).
In 1996, they were invited to perform at the First Madrigal Festival on stage at Carnegie Hall, New York City. Castlewood hosted a performing tour of the United Kingdom in 2000. In 2003, they were invited to perform two evenings at “Christmas at the Biltmore” in Asheville, North Carolina. To celebrate their 20th anniversary together in 2004, Castlewood orchestrated an eleven-day performing tour of Germany and Austria. In 2009, Castlewood was invited back to Carnegie Hall to sing Rutter's 'Requiem' with other choruses. John Rutter conducted with the New England Symphonic Ensemble accompanying.
Castlewood is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the State of Indiana and qualified for its 501-C-3 ruling as issued by the Internal Revenue Service in 1986.
