Castlewood Singers - About Us
The Castlewood Singers, an a capella
ensemble of 22 singers from the Indianapolis, Indiana area, was formed
in 1984. Their music incorporates a wide variety of choral
styles, including classical, contemporary, sacred, spirituals and
Broadway tunes, all sung in four, six, or eight part harmonies.
Directed by Gayle Byers, Castlewood has
performed at
venues throughout the greater Indianapolis area and the State of
Indiana. Highlights have included organizing a well-attended
workshop on Madrigal Dinners at Franklin College (IN) as well as a
choral evensong at the Indianapolis Artsgarden. Castlewood was
recently
featured in a community concert series at Vincennes University (IN).
Currently Castlewood is proud to call Freemason Hall in downtown
Indianapolis, IN our home. Recently Gayle wrote an article about
the musical life returning to this historic building To read this

In 1996, they were invited to perform at the First Madrigal Festival on
stage at Carnegie Hall, New York City. Castlewood hosted a
performing
tour of the United Kingdom in 2000. In 2003, they were invited to
perform two evenings at “Christmas at the Biltmore” in Asheville, North
Carolina. To celebrate their 20th anniversary together in 2004,
Castlewood orchestrated an eleven-day performing tour of Germany and
Austria.
Castlewood is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the
State of
Indiana and qualified for its 501-C-3 ruling as issued by the Internal
Revenue Service in 1986.
